I’m A Victim Of Check Fraud, Can I Recover The Money?

by Alun Hill MCIJ

Scam Question: I am a victim of Nigerian advance-fee-fraud. I made a deal with someone over the internet and they gave me a check for a greater amount than agreed to…I was then told to cash the check and send most of it to a third party via Western Union, which I did. The check later bounced and the money has been taken out of my account, leaving me with no money in my account. As it turns out, I’m a victim of Nigerian 419 fraud.
I plan on filing a police report, but do you think there is any way I can recover the money I sent? Or is it gone forever regardless?

Unfortunately those funds are gone. The nigerian scams are prevalent on the internet, and you may be able to file a loss on homeowners policy but it really depends.
File the police report… and try to get them as many details as possilbe.
If you ever get things from the internet that seem questionable, you can go to http://www.snopes.com – a site that exposes fraud and false urban legends – soda dissolves steak, microsoft pays for email, etc, etc.
Sorry that they swindled you… it sucks that there are so many bad people on the internet.

unfourtuneately your a vicim of an irreversable crime, these nigerian people have firgured out ways to scam americans and there buisnesses
my mother in law works for the AT&T relay for the deaf
the use annonymous calling services to trick buisness into making transactions with them
they also use the at&t relay system to steal your long distance and have you charged outrageous amounts for calls all over the world
because they used you to launder the money , your screwed and they’re paid , i was a victim of a credit card scam once before as well
go to ripoffreport.com and search the name of the company that scammed you
and dont give up

You need to talk to the bank you currently have…this happened to me before and my bank was gracious enough to give me the money and THEN recover it from the assailant.
